Overview

This is a full week of an enjoyably safari holiday featuring some of Kenya's best safari destinations. Discover the wonderful mix of wildlife you’ll encounter. Plenty of cultural exposure and people you’ll have the opportunity to meet.

You’ll take part in exciting African big 5 safaris on sun-wrapped savannahs, view great elephants in dense upcountry jungle and countless birdlife on shimmering mountain lakes. This safari offers a full week of fun, surprises and experiences you will discover both on foot and using your safari vehicle.

Your first stop is Samburu National Reserve which presents rare species like Grevy’s Zebra and the reticulated giraffe. There’s also plenty of big game here such as lion, leopard, cheetah and buffalo. The reserve is home to the Samburu people whose villages dot the landscape.

Then it’s off to Lake Nakuru National Park and along the way there you’ll pass the scenic drama of 74m high Thompson’s Falls. Lake Nakuru Park features a good number of flamingos accompanied by other birdlife – pelicans, cormorants, kingfishers, ostriches, storks as well as herons and eagles. The scene here is clourful, and busy.

But that’s only the beginning of what Lake Nakuru has to offer because the wildlife viewing here is easy and accessible. Lake Nakuru is hosts some endangered but beautiful species. You’re sure to see rare Rothschild’s Giraffe along with white rhino, especially along the lakeshore. The park is also sanctuary to one of Kenya’s largest populations of black rhino.

Next, it’s a short drive to Lake Naivasha and we'll take a boat safari over the beautiful fresh water lake. Watch the hippos, a good mixture of birdlife and small game on the shore. Then at visit Crescent Island where you’ll be treated to a guided walking safari. Here’s you will be walking close to the grazing zebra, buffaloes, impala, giraffe and other small game.

Finally, our busy 7-days African holiday takes us to the world-famous Masai Mara, known for its incredible concentration of wildlife, including the African Big Five safari animals, the Mara is Africa’s richest wlildlife eco-system. The impressive acacia dotted savannah will greet you first and sightings of the park’s rich game will soon follow. There will also be an opportunity for visits to Masai tribes, meet the Maasai people and learn about their unique history and culture. What a perfect way to end your one week safari.

1: Nairobi – Samburu Game Reserve

Ahead of us is an approximate 5-6 hours’ drive to Samburu National Reserve, with an early departure at 7:30 AM our aim remains arrival at the camp/lodge just in time for a delicious lunch afterwards refresh then proceed to the park for an afternoon safari activity.

We will also cross the equator and pause to mark this special moment.

At Samburu we will embark on our first game drive in this semi -arid wildlife reserve, in search of the big cats and elephants among other wildlife as they forage over the area providing you with scenic photographic encounters. Our first night of this Africa holiday will be spent at our Samburu safari lodge/ tented safari camp for dinner and overnight stay.

2: Samburu - Full Day

Our day starts shortly before sunrise as we try and maximize our game viewing opportunities. We’ll arise in time to see the light spreading out on the Great Plains and delight to the first notes of the birds in the new morning.

Our day will be filled with as many game drives as you wish. Just let your driver/guide know how you would like to plan your day.

Besides the park’s big game, we’ll also be looking for unusual wildlife found here like Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe and beisa oryx – a large antelope with a striking appearance.

We will also take drives to nearby Shaba and Buffalo Springs, two oases that are greener than Samburu with forests, woodland, and volcanic formations.

The park also displays over 450 species of avian life, including kingfisher, vulture, guinea fowl, falcon, and eagle. Despite its arid appearance, Samburu offers many surprises for the curious safari-goer.

3: Samburu – Lake Nakuru National Park

Day three of our holiday safari and we’ll be leaving Samburu this morning but first, let’s take a game drive and try to find another elephant or buffalo on its way to a watering hole.

At an advised time, we’re now on our way to Lake Nakuru National Park and along our route, we’ll stop at Nyahururu to take in the towering cascade of Thompson’s Falls.

Lake Nakuru National Park is a lovely spot filled with waterfalls, acacia forests and the lake’s blue alkaline waters. You’ll find some flamingoes here along with pelicans, kingfishers, ostriches, herons, and eagles.

But the park is also known for giving sanctuary to a large population of black and white rhinos, and a major wildlife photographic safari destination in Kenya.

That’s what makes this reserve so special – its great variety of shape, form, colour, and species, a true nature’s paradise.

We’ll spend the night here and then rise for an early morning game drive and bird watching. Dinner and overnight at your Lake Nakuru safari lodge / tented safari camp.

4: Lake Nakuru – Lake Naivasha

We’ve got lots to see today so let’s start with an early morning safari enroute through the park on our way to nearby Lake Naivasha.

There’s so much to do at the lake and its surrounding parks. We’ll get started with a short bike ride over to Hell’s Gate National Park. We’ll hike through dramatic gorges looking for antelope, gazelle, even zebra, and antelope.

Back at Lake Naivasha, we’ll take a relaxing boat safari across the lake, greeting hippos and the various birds flocking nearby. We might even spot some wildlife grazing on the shore.

This peaceful safari vacation will be followed by a guided walk tour to Crescent Island Game Sanctuary, a lovely park that is chock full of gentle wildlife like impala, gazelle, zebra, and waterbuck.

We’ve had a very full day getting close to the animals on jeep, boat, bike, and foot… truly remarkable and it's just day 4 of our safari holiday in Kenya.

We’ll spend the night at the Lake Naivasha safari lodge or tented safari camp.

5: Lake Naivasha – Masai Mara

How about one more game drive around the lake looking for birds and wildlife before we exit Naivasha for the immense spaces of Masai Mara National Reserve?

This is the big one – the best African safari destinations in the world.

We’ll have time to take our first game drive in the Mara this afternoon. Look for Africa’s Big Five – they’re all here. You’ll have your best chances of seeing lion and the other big cats as sightings are regularly reported.

Return for dinner and overnight at your Masai Mara tented safari camp/ safari lodge.

6: Masai Mara – Full Day

We’ve planned this 7-days wildlife safari to give you plenty of time to explore the rolling hills and acacia tree- dotted plains of the Masai Mara.

One of the most unique properties of the Mara is that this ecosystem has the highest concentration of wildlife in this region of Africa. Besides the African Big Five, we’ll be looking for gazelle, topi, eland, plus great quantities of birdlife – kingfisher, stork, guinea fowl and plenty of raptors.

You may also see stunning hordes of wildebeests and zebra throughout the park during the Masai Mara Great Migration season (July – October). This is the time when uncountable numbers of these grazers invade the park, crossing the Mara River, searching for sustenance.

We’ll take a picnic lunch near the river looking for hippos and crocodiles. And if it is the Kenya migration season, look for the vast influx of wildlife streaming into the Mara.

7: Masai Mara – Nairobi

Today, wrapping up your safari holiday in Africa is a leisurely morning breakfast at your tented safari camp/ safari lodge, afterward you have an option to visit the Masai village before starting your journey back to Nairobi.

Your dedicated expert driver guide will assist you with the checkout process and proceed to Nairobi with stops along the way. We’ll depart Masai Mara with a hot lunch stop along the way, arriving in Nairobi during late afternoon hours (approximately 15:00Hrs, typically 3:00 Pm) and bring you to your Nairobi hotel, or the Nairobi airport.

Drop off at your Nairobi City hotel /Nairobi airport signaling the end of our 7 days Kenya safari trip.
