1: Nairobi - Masai Mara National Reserve

We’ll start with a very early pickup at 07:30 am from your hotel, and head out to the Mara game reserve. Getting there in time for short game viewing before lunch, we’ll later head out on an afternoon game drive. This is your introduction to the Mara, possibly the most famous game park in the world.

The scenic drive to the Mara is past homesteads as you head to the Great Rift Valley escarpment where you may stop for awesome views.

We shall descend to the floor of the Rift valley and open Masai country as you journey to the Masai Mara.

2: Full Day – Masai Mara

The concentration of large animals here is superb, perhaps unrivaled anywhere. This is Kenya’s most popular park, and as you explore the rolling plains here with its population of the famous African “Big 5” safari animals, you’ll soon see why.

Should you be here during the Great Migration (July – October), you’ll be treated to what’s considered the largest movement of wildlife on the planet. Millions of wildebeest, zebra and gazelle cross over the Mara River and into the reserve in a massive display of foraging and survival.

We’ll visit the Mara River to take in this awesome spectacle, see the hippos there, and the crocodiles waiting to meet those invading hordes. We may also see other predators present for the hunt like lions, leopards and cheetahs.

If you’d like to witness this amazing phenomenon from above, we recommend taking the optional early morning balloon safari. You’ll drift over the plains to view rivers of wildlife wending onto the horizon – an unforgettable sight.

We also offer an optional visit to meet the local Maasai tribes, see their village and learn first-hand about their lives. Just ask your guide about either of these excursions.

3: Masai Mara – Lake Nakuru

We’ll depart early for Lake Nakuru, but we’ll have plenty of time to stop, stretch and enjoy scenic vistas along the way.

Lake Nakuru is a stunning park – you may view a few flamingos lining the lake. Then waterfalls, acacia forest and looming rocky escarpments overseeing it all. This is a wonderful place for wildlife watching but also to relax.

The few quantities of flamingos found here is accompanied by other birdlife – pelicans, cormorants, kingfishers, ostriches, storks as well as herons and eagles.

You’ll find rare Rothschild’s giraffe, occasional leopard zebra, hippo, waterbuck, hyena, monkey and baboon. But let’s get back to the flamingos – there are possibly as many as a million of the fuchsia birds filling the alkaline lake, feeding off its vast blooms of algae. This is only one of a few places in the world you can see this carpet of blazing pink birdlife.

And still more to come – we’ll visit the rhino sanctuary, home to one of Kenya’s largest populations of endangered black and white rhino.

What you may see at Lake Nakuru national park …….

Flamingo (Greater and Lesser), White Rhino, Leopard, Black Rhino, Waterbucks, unique vegetation about 550 species waterfalls: Makalia.

4: Lake Nakuru – Amboseli

Now we’re headed toward east Kenya and Amboseli Park. Again, we shall break up the trip with stops-overs to eat and to view the Great Rift Valley.

Let the largest mountain in Africa be your guide to Amboseli Park. You’ll see the massive scale of Mt. Kilimanjaro as it stands over the park. Indeed, Kilimanjaro is an ever-present feature here. This is the “Land of the Giants” – both the mountain and the unending train of great, ivory-tusked elephants that parade through this park.

We’ll visit Observation Hill, an excellent spot for viewing the park and the wildlife below, especially at the springs and marshes where we’ll see the always present elephant, plus buffalo, hippo, pelican and other birdlife.

We’ll spend the night here and take a final game drive before we depart for Tsavo West.

5: Amboseli – Tsavo West

It’s a fairly short drive to Tsavo West Park, so we can begin our exploration of the park with plenty of light and plenty of energy. Tsavo is a park with unexpected features – located amongst the sprawling savannah are lava beds from recent volcanoes, wild baobab trees and lush, sparkling oases.

Like at the Masai Mara, you can find the “Big Five” safari animals patrolling the plains here. The male lions at Tsavo are unique in that they have no manes. This park too has plenty of elephants along with rhino, Maasai giraffe, bushbaby and hartebeest.

We’ll also visit the life-giving waters at Mzima Springs, and the abundant wildlife attracted to its shores – gazelle, zebra, monkey, hippo and lurking further below, exotic fish and crocodile.

This is our last safari evening. Tomorrow we’ll take a final game drive, but the park viewing isn’t over yet

Overnight shall be at your Tsavo west safari lodge or tented camp.

6: Tsavo West – Mombasa - Kenya Coast Beaches

It’s a quick drive to the train station at Mtito- Andei for your trip to the coast. On the way there, you’ll be traveling through Tsavo West and Tsavo East, so you’ll still have more opportunities to view the parks and possibly some wildlife.

At the train station, your driver/guide will assist you with tickets and transfer to the high-speed train to Mombasa and the coast.

Your first-class ticket is included with the tour, so enjoy the comfort of your air-conditioned compartment and reclining seat. The train’s route is positioned higher than the roadway and offers an elevated view of the parks. And with its large windows you’ll enjoy wonderful vistas of the passing landscapes.

There’s also a buffet car for drinks and snacks, and new, clean restrooms for your accessibility. In about 3 hours you’ll arrive at the state-of-the-art train station in Mombasa.
