A visit to Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park – Unguja Island boasts the one and only national park in the Zanzibar Islands. Situated 35kms, South East of Stone Town, this unique national park is famous for its Red Colobus monkey which is an endangered rain forest species. The park is home to populations of Zanzibar red colobus monkey (an endangered species found only on Zanzibar) as well as other monkey species, bushbabies, duikers and more than 40 species of birds. The park also has several interesting features including the mangrove forest, the lush evergreen coastal bush, grasslands, and saline groundwater forests.
Starting off this 3hour tour ideally at 8:00am will give you ample time to walk around the park taking in the numerous attractions. The rare and endangered Red Colobus monkeys at the park are friendly and will jump along on the trees beside guests. With the help of the guides, guests can even take pictures with them.
The tour will take you through to the sea grass-beds of Chwaka bay which is an important breeding grounds for marine organisms.
