Diani Beach Windsurfing Adventures
The Kaskazi, blowing onshore from the north, is known locally as the Baridi (“cold” in Kiswahili). It arrives around mid-December and lasts through to late February, delivering consistent winds between 15 and 25 knots — ideal for freestyle and downwind sessions.
The Kuzi, a gentler monsoon wind from the south, takes over between June and September, bringing steady breezes of 10 to 22 knots that are perfect for beginners and cruisers alike.
Windsurfing Conditions In Diani Beach
Light breezes in the morning and flat water, sheltered lagoons are ideal for lessons, beginners and intermediates to practice. In the afternoon the wind generally increases providing blasting conditions for the more experienced with breaking waves on the reef. From mid-June to end of September, the winds average 20-35 knots with monsoon winds creating very big swells and up to 3.5m faces on the outer reef. From December to March the wind averages 15-25 knots and waves averaging 1.5m on the outer reef.
