2: Masai Mara Full Day
Here in Kenya’s most popular park with its deep savannahs offset with iconic acacia trees, you’ll have a good chance to spot the “Big Five” – lion, leopard elephant, rhino and buffalo because of the great density of animals in this reserve.
At the Mara River, we’ll see hippo and crocodile deep in their usual habitat as wildebeest, zebra and gazelle forge across in search of food. The park also supports masses of impala, eland, Masai Giraffe, cheetah and hyena. You won’t go a day here without enjoying the ever-present wildlife.
We also offer several optional activities to round out your safari. An early morning hot air balloon ride over the awakening Mara with its views of the endless trains of wildlife is an unforgettable memory. Just ask us and we’ll make the arrangements for you.
You can also take a moment out from wildlife tracking to visit the local Maasai people. Here you can meet the villagers, learn about their lives and purchase some of their colourful crafts.
Dinner and overnight at your Masai Mara tented safari camp/ safari lodge.
3: Masai Mara – Lake Naivasha
It’s our third day at the Masai Mara, and the other parks are calling! We’ll do a short game drive, and then it’s on to Lake Naivasha. Along the way, we’ll make some stops to admire the dramatic forms of the Great Rift Valley.
Naivasha is an elevated Rift Valley lake filled with migratory birds, fish and hippo. We’ll take an afternoon boat safari across the lake, sailing by those hippos with views of wildlife like zebra and antelope grazing on the nearby shore.
This is a striking area blessed with acacia forests, waterfalls, towering escarpments and deep gorges. Not far off are more parks and preserves waiting for your exploration.
We’ll head over to one of these small gems – Crescent Island Game Sanctuary. This is a private island preserve that hosts rich birdlife such as pelicans, cormorants and fish eagles. On our guided walking safari here we’ll also get close to wildebeest, waterbuck, zebra and gazelle.
Overnight at your Lake Naivasha safari lodge / tented safari camp.
4: Lake Naivasha – Amboseli
This morning we’ll take perhaps one more walking tour and then we’re off to Amboseli National Park. On the way, we’ll take a break from our drive and stop to view more scenic vistas.
Amboseli is a small park but very dense with wildlife. You’re guaranteed elephant sightings as well as the stunning backdrop of Mt. Kilimanjaro framing the park. The great mountain and the massive elephant herds create a feeling here that is different from our other parks but one that you will very much enjoy.
If we’re lucky, this evening, the cloud cover hovering about the peaks of Kilimanjaro will disperse leaving us with views of its glorious snow-capped summit.
The next morning we’ll take one more game drive through the park bidding farewell to the friendly giants of Amboseli.
Overnight at your Amboseli safari lodge or tented safari camp.
5: Amboseli to Tsavo West
It’s just a two-hour drive to our final park, the striking Tsavo West. This is one of Kenya’s oldest parks and offers us a vivid landscape of hills, golden savannahs and luxuriant oases. We’ll spend the day here on game drives, circling around giraffe, buffalo, hartebeest, dik-dik, monkeys and baboons.
At Mzima Springs, a verdant, lush watering hole, expect hippos. And you’ll love the special underwater viewing platform where you’ll enjoy a unique perspective of these aquatic creatures. Also look for crocodile and other wildlife along the shores.
Your final night of the safari will be spent here, and in the morning, we’ll take off on one more game drive in this celebrated national reserve.
Overnight shall be at your Tsavo West safari lodge or tented safari camp.
6: Tsavo West – Kenya Beach Resorts
Now it’s a quick drive to the train station at Mtito Andei for your trip to the coast. On the way there you’ll be traveling through Tsavo West and Tsavo East Park so there’s still more opportunities to view these reserves and possibly some wildlife.
At the train station, your driver/guide will assist you with tickets and transfer to the Madaraka Express, the new high-speed train to Mombasa and the coast.
Your first-class ticket is included with the tour, so enjoy the comfort of your air-conditioned compartment and reclining seat. The train’s route is positioned higher than the roadway and offers an elevated view of the parks. And with its large windows you’ll enjoy wonderful vistas of the passing landscapes.
There’s also a buffet car for drinks and snacks, and new, modern restrooms for your convenience. In about 3 hours, you’ll arrive at the state-of-the-art train station in Mombasa.
Later proceed to Mtito Andei train station (Next to Tsavo West) where you shall board the standard gauge Nairobi-Mombasa Train (Madaraka Express).
