Overview
Starting from coastal Mombasa, Kilifi, Watamu, or Diani beach resorts, we shall finish this tour back at your Nairobi area hotel or airport. A classic 5-days Kenya beach safari, visiting some of Kenya’s picture-perfect wilderness parks.
We start-off from the Kenya coastal beaches to Nairobi by road, visiting 3 parks – Tsavo East, Tsavo West and Amboseli, on an exciting mix of dramatic scenery and even more dramatic wildlife encounters.
This 5-day African safari features just plenty of time for relaxed game viewing and optional safari activities. The largest, Tsavo East National Park is wide-open with a rugged landscape and distinctive red soil that its herds of elephants are fond of rolling in. The park also is known for lion, leopard, buffalo and many other large and small game.
Just nearby is Tsavo West National Park which hosts the endangered rhino in a specially protected sanctuary. The park is a pleasing mixture of great savannah, rolling hills, unusual baobab trees and verdant, clear springs. We’ll explore the springs for exotic fish, hippo, and crocodile.
Our third stop on this 5-day African trip is Amboseli National Park, smaller than the other two parks but with just as much wildlife to be seen. Seated at the base of Africa’s greatest mountain, Mt. Kilimanjaro, the park is popular because of its dramatic views and its collection of African elephants. Amboseli is ranked as one of the best places for an African photographic tour. We’ll be on the lookout for wildebeest, zebra, gazelle, cheetah, and lion.
Let Vulture African Safaris know if you have any special requirements or requests. We love to personalize safari excursions so your trip will be just as you imagined it.

Itinerary
Expand allCollapse all1: Kenya Coast – Tsavo East National Park
Your driver/guide will pick you up early from your Kenya coast beach resort or hotel in a 4 x 4 Jeep for your safari journey. This includes Mombasa, Watamu, Diani, and Malindi.
We’ll head out on the Mombasa-Nairobi Highway, also known as the Early Explorer’s route to Tsavo East National Park. (There is a small route variation from Malindi/Watamu resorts)
The early morning drive to the park is scenic and we’ll pause when we arrive at the entrance for refreshments.
Before us is the beautiful and rugged expanse of Tsavo East, the largest park in Kenya. Famous for its lions and elephants, we’ll head out in our 4 x 4 in search of the wild game.
We’ll enjoy a lunch break at and perhaps a bit of relaxing time, allowing the mid-day heat to dissipate before taking an afternoon game drive.
The cooling plains will entice the wildlife back into the open, especially at the park’s watering holes where they gather in great numbers, drawn to the precious water.
As we wind up our first safari day, we may be blessed with a vivid African sunset, lighting our way.
Tonight, we’ll stay in Tsavo East, at your choice of safari lodge or tented safari camp.
2: Tsavo East – Tsavo West
We’ll be up with the first bird song, to enjoy the sunrise and an early morning game drive. This is a peaceful and special time of first light when the park and savannah come alive. We’ll look for the wildlife as it ventures forth from the protection of the night.
Of special note are the birds – over 500 species are found here including the lovebird and sacred ibis.
We’ll have breakfast and one more game drive as we exit the park on our way to Tsavo West.
It’s a short drive to this park of rolling hills, lava beds, and broad savannahs. All of Africa’s Big Five are here and we’ll be on the lookout for them, plus giraffe, hartebeest and impala.
The rarest of the big game is the endangered rhino but here at Tsavo West, there’s a special rhino sanctuary, created to protect over 80 of these large and elusive beasts. We’ll visit here and track the rhino, so have your camera ready.
We’ll spend our second safari night at Tsavo West at your choice of lodge or tented camp.
3: Tsavo West – Amboseli
Rising before the dawn we’ll enjoy the first stirrings of birds and beasts as the dawn breaks across the plains.
It’s a perfect time for an early game drive and we’ll head out in our 4 x 4 to see what and who the dawn brings us.
Next is a visit Mzima Springs, one of the parks’ surprises, with its lush, green foliage, and crystal waters. Here we’ll find hippo, crocodile, fish, and birds, all flourishing in this rich habitat. Also drawn to these life-giving waters are zebra, elephant and many other inhabitants of this reserve.
We’ll leave Tsavo West for the short drive to Amboseli National Park. Just look for stately Mt. Kilimanjaro to guide us there. Africa’s tallest mountain lies south of the park, creating endless postcard vistas.
At all times Amboseli is a gift to photographers but even more so at evening when the cloud covering the snowy peak often gives way to a wondrous view of the iconic massif.
We’ll spend the first of two nights at Amboseli at your safari lodge or tented camp.
4: Amboseli National Park – Full Day
Of course, we’ll head out on an early morning game viewing drive – that’s what we do on safari!
Then breakfast and a mid-morning game drive.
You can’t miss the elephants at Amboseli, known as perhaps the best spot in Africa for seeing them. There’s nothing like a noble parade of pachyderms passing before the majesty of Kilimanjaro.
We’ll enjoy lunch at our lodging and then we can relax or take off on another game drive to see who else we can add to our checklist. It’s your choice – just tell your driver/guide what your preferences are.
We also offer a special optional visit to the local Maasai people at their nearby village. Meet them, learn about their lifestyle and culture and perhaps purchase some beaded souvenirs. Your driver/guide can make all the arrangements.
Our final safari night will be at your Amboseli lodge or tented camp.
5: Amboseli – Nairobi City
One more early rise to enjoy our last pre-breakfast game drive. Nothing like traveling over the savannah to build up an appetite!
We may also get a peek at Kilimanjaro’s snowy summit, a truly inspiring view.
We’ll enjoy breakfast surrounded by the splendor of the natural world, its sights, sounds, and gentle breezes, some elephants and perhaps some others wild animals before we depart Amboseli for the capital of Nairobi.
We should arrive in Nairobi around 16:30 hrs. (4:30 pm) and bring you to your hotel, residence or the airport.
Five full days filled with wonderful scenery and exciting wildlife – this is what an African safari is all about. We hope you had a wonderful time and thank you for choosing Vulture African Safaris. See you soon!
