Overview

Ol Pejeta boasts the highest number of black rhinos in East Africa. This is the only place in Kenya to see chimpanzees in their natural habitat. But again, there’s so much more to see in this private reserve. Africa’s Big Five wildlife are also here, and the conservancy is just a short drive from Nairobi.

On route to the conservancy, we’ll cross the Equator and nearby is the famous Thompson Falls which you can visit at an additional cost. Watch out for the snow-capped Mt. Kenya, rising in the distance – the second (2nd) -highest mountain in Africa.

Watch out for the Grevy’s zebra, bat-eared fox, reticulated giraffe, white-tailed mongoose, and the black-fronted duiker, among other big predators – at least six prides of lions, and sometimes cheetahs. With plenty of comfort and luxury safari lodges, on your 2-day Ol Pejeta safari, you’ll be guided, hosted and looked after by your own experienced driver/guide.

  • Rhino Sanctuary
  • Meet the Chimpanzees

1: Nairobi - Ol Pejeta Conservancy

07:30 hrs. Your driver/guide will pick you up from your hotel in Nairobi or Nairobi airport then we’ll head out in our 4 x 4 Jeep for the Ol Pejeta Conservancy. We’ll be traveling through Laikipia towards the Aberdares - Mt. Kenya area.

Our route takes us directly via the equator point and we’ll take a moment to stop and enjoy this unique spot.

At Ol Pejeta you’ll be amazed by the diversity of wildlife. Endangered rhinos plus a good number of the Big Five can be found here as well as the giraffes, impala, Jackson’s hartebeest, gazelle, like Grevy’s zebra, jackal, hyena… even monkey and baboon.

This is also home to the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary within the reserve. It’s a place where rescued chimps are cared for and given a second chance in their natural habitat. It’s the only place in Kenya to see primates.

You may want to take advantage of an optional visit to the local tribespeople, the Maasai. At their village, you’ll get to meet these indigenous people and learn about their traditional lifestyle. Just ask your guide to set up a personalized tour.

You’ll spend the night in your choice of an Ol Pejeta safari lodge or tented safari camp.
